Sandeep Patil is a former Indian cricketer who played for the Indian national team from 1980 to 1984. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler. Patil was born on August 18, 1956, in Mumbai, India. He started playing cricket at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most promising players in the country.
Early Career
Patil made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 1975 and quickly established himself as a talented batsman. He scored heavily in domestic cricket, which earned him a place in the Indian national team. Patil made his international debut in 1980 against Australia and quickly made an impact with his aggressive batting style. He was known for his ability to score quickly and take the game away from the opposition.
International Career
Patil played 29 Test matches and 36 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. He scored 1,588 runs in Test cricket at an average of 29.08 and 1,005 runs in ODIs at an average of 23.81. Patil's most notable performance came in 1982 when he scored 129 runs against Pakistan in a Test match in Karachi. He was also a part of the Indian team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
Post-Retirement
After retiring from cricket, Patil went on to become a coach and selector. He was the coach of the Indian national team from 1996 to 1998 and also coached the Kenya national team. Patil has also been involved in various cricket-related activities, including commentary and writing. He is currently the director of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and is involved in the development of young cricketers in India. Patil's contributions to Indian cricket have been recognized, and he remains one of the most respected figures in the sport.
