Padma Lakshmi Bio
Padma Parvati Lakshmi (born September 1st 1970) was born in Chennai. Lakshmi lost her parents when she was just two years old. Her mother left India to escape the stigma associated with divorce in India and emigrated to the United States. Lakshmi was a resident for two years with her maternal grandparents in Chennai, before she came to the United States. Her parents divorced later, and she now has a younger half-brother and half sister from her father. Lakshmi, who has a last name with the Hindu goddess of prosperity and wealth was born in New York and then in Los Angeles with her mother and stepfather. She would visit India for a short period of time each year to visit relatives. Padma Lakshmi started acting in 1999.
