Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1936 from 1936 to August 17 2015) was an American actress, ballet dancer and choreographer. She is best known for her roles in Batman's 1960s TV series Batman and Marta the Orion slave girl wearing green skin in Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female super heroes" in the world of television. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. In 1951, her family moved to the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas, where she attended W. H. Adamson High School and then Sunset High School, from which she didn't complete her studies due to the absence of "a single PE credit". After being spotted by Alexandra Danilova, a ballerina as well as an instructor, Craig joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its youngest member of the corps de ballet. This training was helpful when she did stunts playing Batgirl. She left the ballet company in the year 1957 "over an issue with casting changes" and relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of continuing her dancing career. However, she found herself being cast in films. One of her first TV performances was in the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in the year 1958 with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later played Batgirl's stepfather, Police Commissioner James Gordon. After her appearances in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959), and Gidget (all 1958) she was also a guest on Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig appeared in films with Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961) in which she was portrayed by Cesar Romero. In 1962, she guest-starred in the television show Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig appeared in roles with Elvis Presley in two films The other was It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin Cousins (1964). She also starred in the science-fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) and appeared in In Like Flint (1967) as the role of a Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn.
