Anita Ekberg
Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January 2015) was an Swedish actress who appeared in American and European films, famous for her beauty and striking silhouette. Her role as Sylvia, in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) was a hit and made her famous. Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th of September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. In her teens, Anita worked as a fashion model. Ekberg took part in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 following the advice of her mother. This led to her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she was crowned. Despite speaking very little English, she went to the United States to compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant in that period, the pageant was officially launched in 1952).
